She cocks an eyebrow, crosses her arms, and murmurs: “Can’t fucking believe it,” and the first thought Steve has is that she shouldn’t be so eager to curse being so young.
She can’t be older than eighteen, and Steve can’t work out why Fury even contacted her in the first place. She glares at Steve, but when she looks at Fury they’re respectful in a way that they weren’t before, when she was looking at Steve. She sighs and looks away, arms still crossed and pressed against her chest, and Steve resigns himself to his fate.
“This is Erica Reyes, Cap,” Fury says, approaching them both. Agent Hill is next to Fury, and Steve remembers that he’s supposed to have returned a load of paperwork to one of Agent Hill’s minions, but he’d not gotten around to it yet. He hates paperwork. And apparently he’d not been paying attention either because Fury barks: “Rogers?”
Erica clears her throat loudly as well. Clearly she holds Fury in high regard. Steve vaguely wonders why. Especially a woman who seems as difficult as her. Fury, the most manipulative man he’s ever known, and she a young woman so eager to please. Must be hero worship of some sort. He can’t understand it, can’t come to terms with it. He only respects Fury because really, he should.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Reyes.”
